ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (June 23, 2022) – The Town of Oro Valley Community and Economic Development (CED) Department is pleased to announce a more customer-friendly and efficient way for Oro Valley business owners, developers and contractors to apply for or renew business licenses and track development projects through a new software called SmartGov.

SmartGov replaces the current permitting, inspections and business license software. The online portal has a user-friendly dashboard that allows customers to track applications and permits in real time.

The implementation of SmartGov will lead to greater efficiencies for Town staff and customers, saving time and money. Contractors will be able to start building sooner because staff is now able to shorten the intake and distribution time for permits. SmartGov creates a more efficient process that allows staff to track permits and inspection reviews in a shorter time frame. Also, a geographic information system component to SmartGov allows customers to begin a permit application by clicking on a map address, rather than having to type information.

“Our department’s goal is to provide responsive, reliable, consistently-good customer service from the moment a development starts with entitlements to the moment we issue a Certificate of Occupancy,” said Paul Melcher, Community and Economic Development Director. “SmartGov will be an invaluable tool for users in that it’s much more intuitive and allows for better project management.”

To use the SmartGov system, all users must create an online portal account. New customers, without existing permits or applications, can create a new account by clicking here. For customers with existing accounts, CED will provide an access code that will link to existing applications and active permits. Customers can call the department at 520-229-4800 to receive the access code. More information about how to create a portal can be found here.
