Standardized test scores in Oro Valley schools outpace national, county and state averages in almost every category for reading, language and math skills. Oro Valley is part of the Amphitheater Public Schools district, and in addition to public schools, students have nationally-ranked charter and private school options.

The University of Arizona main campus is approximately 12 miles south of Oro Valley. Nearly 43,500 students are enrolled in 21 colleges that offer more than 150 undergraduate majors, more than 100 doctoral programs, 150 master's programs and 60 graduate certificate programs. In 2022, the school ranked #37 out of 680 institutions in total R & D expenditures by the National Science Foundation. In fact, the newest addition to their college offerings is the University of Arizona College of Veterinary Medicine, which is located right here in Oro Valley.
Pima Community College has five campuses, one just west of Oro Valley, four education centers and three adult education learning centers. More than 25,000 students attend traditional and online instruction in approximately 150 transfer and occupational programs. The college also offers workforce training, non-credit personal interest classes and post-baccalaureate certificates.
The Tucson-Metro area also hosts branches of Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, University of Phoenix and Pima Medical Institute.
The Pima JTED Career and Technical Education District offers premier, tuition-free CTE programs to sophomores, juniors and seniors.
