Valued Oro Valley Community Partners:

As your police chief, I want to share the Oro Valley Police Department’s (OVPD) philosophy on crime and accountability and ask your assistance with preventing crime and theft. The recent and future challenges faced by our Town and region have affected us in ways we could not predict. In my 30 years, I can attest that policing is different than I ever experienced. Similarly, owning and operating a business is more challenging than ever.

Your police department is committed to partnering with you to promote safety and encourage the efficient prosperity of your businesses. As your partner, the police department needs your help to show criminals that Oro Valley is not a place that will tolerate their illicit activities. You are an integral part of this and your participation is crucial.

Oro Valley police officers are unique in that they work each shift with the understanding that no call for service is too small. A call to 911 is seen from the perspective of those seeking help and, to them, their issue is important. Subsequently, we respond professionally and with empathy. Each officer takes pride in responding with vigor when given the opportunity to interact with the community, help those in need, and hold people accountable for criminal activity.

Please encourage your employees to call the police if they feel the need. They can even call if they are unsure that a police response is necessary. If you call us, we want to help solve your problem. The old adage of “see something, say something” is surprisingly effective. What I ask of you is your participation and collaboration with us when it comes to prosecuting those who victimize your establishments and your patrons. Participation in the continuing court process after our initial response is key to our community-oriented approach to crime reduction.

I am humbled to be your police chief and am grateful for all you do to make Oro Valley what it is. I look forward to strengthening the relationship we have and making Oro Valley even better for future generations.

Sincerely,

Kara M. Riley
Chief of Police
